An important update (the best news!)

Mockup of what the entrance could look like

Dear Monterey Skates Community,

Thank you so much for your patience while we researched what comes next after our time at the Fairgrounds wraps up at the end of March. The past few weeks have been a whirlwind—and we were honestly overwhelmed (in the best way) by the encouragement, ideas, and venue suggestions so many of you shared. 💛

The ink is barely dry, but we’re thrilled to share that Monterey Skates is moving to the Del Monte Center! We’ll be taking over the former Forever 21 space, right near the movie theater, Gold’s Gym, and the ice cream shop. Fun fact: this was actually one of the very first spaces we dreamed about years ago—back when we were still getting off the ground. To be here now feels pretty surreal.

One of the biggest changes? We plan to be open 7 days a week. No more wondering if it’s a skating weekend or sending a text to check if we’re open. Being open more often means more chances to skate, more flexibility for lessons and sessions, and more ways to build community. With the larger space, we’re planning some exciting upgrades:

  • A bigger snack bar, with hopes to add limited hot food options like mac and cheese, chili, and other favorites

  • Memberships, so you can skate as often as you’d like

  • Double the skating floor size, plus double the number of Skate Mates (we see how popular they are!)

  • Inline skates for rent, with possible premium rentals and select skate sales

  • More options for private parties, field trips, and fundraisers.

  • And while it likely won’t be ready at opening, we’re exploring the addition of a small arcade within the first 6–12 months

We’re working with the Monterey Planning and Building departments on getting everything permitted. As soon as we have everything ready to go, and we have approval from the city, we’ll announce our opening date. Between now and then, we still have two more weekends at the Fairgrounds:

  • Upcoming March 6–8 (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, our last adult night at the Fairgrounds)

    • Note lessons are canceled as Scarlett is unavailable
  • March 27–28 (no Sunday)

Also note that our Saturday evening session is now 4pm-7pm, directly after the afternoon family skate from 1-4pm. This is because on the 28th, we have to move completely out of the Fairgrounds and this will take multiple trips in our step van.

After we’ve moved out, we’ll have a quick turnaround to get that equipment integrated into the new space—though we’ll be doing a lot of prep behind the scenes before then. If you’re curious, you can check out:

Most of all, thank you! Monterey Skates exists because of this community—the skaters, families, teens, adults, and supporters who showed up, spread the word, and believed in what we’re building. We cannot wait to welcome you into this next chapter and roll forward together.

We hope to see you this short weekend! 🎟️ View our schedule or skip directly to purchase tickets.
