A New Chapter for Monterey Skates

Image edited with AI: a Monterey Skates event in full swing — skates, sound, lights, and a full floor

Hello Monterey Skates Community,

The last several months have been an emotional journey. Since closing our Fairgrounds pop-up in March, we’ve looked at more permanent venues than we can count. Some fell through on price. Some on space. Some on infrastructure. Each one taught us something.

Along the way, we realized something important: the business we love isn’t necessarily a single fixed rink. It’s the experience of the skates, the sound, the lights, the community created wherever people gather. And that experience is portable.

Announcing Monterey Skates, a mobile experience

We’re leaning into the mobile side of Monterey Skates going forward until we find a permanent space. That means we can bring the full rink experience to any indoor space large enough to host it:

  • 380 pairs of precision quad skates, from size J7 to adult 16
  • Club-quality sound to fill the room
  • Music-timed lighting for the authentic rink atmosphere
  • A live DJ who reads the crowd

We handle setup, run the event, and keep your guests entertained. You handle the invitations.

What kinds of events?

A year of research and a lot of conversations with schools, HR teams, community groups, and party planners helped us narrow the focus:

  • School events — dances, field trips, PE alternatives, fundraisers
  • Corporate events — team building, holiday parties, employee appreciation, product launches
  • Private parties — birthdays, quinceañeras, reunions, milestones
  • Community events — HOAs, churches, non-profit fundraisers, cultural celebrations
  • Lessons — group programs for schools, private lessons, corporate wellness

The venue can be a gym, a warehouse, a community center, a private tennis court, a fellowship hall — anywhere with a smooth floor, adequate ceiling clearance, and standard electrical outlets. Our venue requirements page has the full checklist.

And: a brand new website

To match the new focus, we’ve rebuilt montereyskates.com from the ground up. Faster, more considered, easier to use. Every service we offer has its own page with venue guidance, sizing suggestions, and a booking form.

Take a look and let us know what you think.

The permanent rink is still on the horizon

Mobile isn’t a retreat, it’s a bridge. We continue to evaluate permanent spaces on the Peninsula, and when the right one becomes available, we’ll transition back to a full operation. Every mobile event we run in the meantime keeps roller skating alive here and builds the case for the permanent home.

Book us for your event

Whether you’re planning an epic birthday party, running a school fundraiser, organizing a corporate offsite, or hosting a community event — we’d love to bring the rink to you.

And if you have friends, colleagues, or organizations who’d get value out of a mobile skating event, this is the moment to share Monterey Skates with them. Referrals mean the world to a small local business. And finally, in very minor news, we’re no longer using MailChimp as we decided to manage the newsletter entirely in-house.

See you at the rink — wherever that turns out to be,

Max, Morgan, and Kiana
